As summer has passed and autumn has properly arrived, the Lake District has shifted away from sun baked rock, refreshing swims and a packed high street, and back toward changeable weather where a waterproof is the first thing visitors pack in their bag.
Though this website and our social media has been quiet over the last few months, I have been busy working in the fells and further afield. However, I have been freelancing for another company rather than pursuing my own business as I have had a wedding to plan, meaning running a business full time has been next to impossible.
Thankfully, everything has gone smoothly and as the colder months draw in, focus can be put into the future and preparing for next year.
One aim this winter will be to flesh out the plan for next year, balancing freelancing with building a reputation and expanding our customer base. I’m hoping to build more on the instruction potential of the fells, introducing people to navigation techniques and safety in the mountains.
As well as business planning, as always, I will be out and about in the fells making the most of the colder weather and hoping for snow and ice.
In addition, this year I will be digitizing a notebook that I keep every winter that records the winter weather conditions of the Lake District. This info draws from multiple sources to provide an idea of where will be frozen, and on what aspect snow is accumulating in the mountains.

Over the last two winters, this note taking hasn’t been much use due to the short freezes that we have had, along with a lack of winter climbing conditions. This previous winter did have some short periods of snowfall which had skiers out in force, as well as making for some beautiful walking conditions. Either way our fingers are crossed for a wintry Lake District this year.

I’m looking forward to what the next year will bring and hope to see you out on the fells ~ Ben
